When Walt Disney built Disneyland® in 1955, he did not have enough money to build a hotel too. He persuaded his friend Jack Wrather to build the hotel on Disney land across from the park. When the hotel was purchased by the Walt Disney Company in 1988, the Company also gained the lease to operate the Queen Mary in Long Beach.
