Pin Description:
One of a series of pins sold to cast members only during Disneyland's 40th anniversary. There are fourteen pins in the series, released in three separate sets of five, five, and four pins. Each pin in the series represents an attraction that was closed and removed from Disneyland before 1995. This pin is a part of Set #2.This pin shows the way the Sierra Tower at the Disneyland Hotel looked in 1961, when it was constructed. Because of the placement of the elevator shaft, the wording appeared as "Hotel Disneyland," but when they did expansion on the tower in 1966, they switched the words to "Disneyland Hotel", the way it reads today.
The trading card that came with the pin has the following caption:
"In 1955, at Walt's request, glum
businessman Jack Wrather built a hotel to complement Walt's new Theme Park. It became such a success that in 1961 the Sierra Tower was erected, becoming Anaheim's first highrise. Due to the architectural placement of the elevator shaft, the signage across the top read "Hotel Disneyland. When the tower was expanded in 1966, the sign was changed to its present appearance."
Also sold at Company D at Walt Disney World (Disney / MGM). The set of five pins was sold for $20.00 at both locations.
